A high-power 1550-nm distributed-feedback laser diode is used in high-capacity long-haul communications links to transport voice, data, and video signals between regional distribution facilities. Designed for use with external modulators in cable-TV and telephone networks, the laser delivers optical power >30 mW with low noise.
