Analog launches transimpedance amplifier for 10-Gbit/sec optical networks

18 September 2003 Norwood, MA Lightwave -- Analog Devices Inc. today unveiled its ADN2821 3.3 V transimpedance amplifier (TIA), designed for use in small form-factor receiver packages in 10-Gbit/sec optical networks. In the past, optical receivers operating at high data rates required expensive, large footprint, ceramic-based packages. With the continuing cost pressures in optical networking, a key trend has been the demand for smaller, more cost-effective packaging. The ADN2821 successfully addresses the size, cost, and performance requirements of today's 10-Gbit/sec receive optical subassemblies (ROSAs), claim company representatives.

Featuring unrivaled sensitivity, high transimpedance and low power consumption on a 3.3-V power supply, the ADN2821 provides exceptional performance up to 11.1 Gbits/sec, says the company. The layout and design of the ADN2821 are optimized to specifically address the space and performance concerns of TO-can-based ROSAs. The on-chip photodiode filter network and average power monitor allow many discrete components to be eliminated. By easing design and minimizing cost, the ADN2821 provides an ideal solution for 10-Gbit/sec ROSA equipment manufacturers.

Designed for 10.7-Gbit/sec optical receiver modules using small form-factor packages, the ADN2821 is available now and priced at $34.50 per unit in 1,000-unit quantities.
