GigOptix releases low-power 100G/400G quad linear driver

Semiconductor and components supplier GigOptix, Inc. (NYSEAMEX:GIG) says the GigOptix GX62472 linear quad channel Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) driver consumes 30% less power compared to the previous generation of devices.

GigOptix’s GX62472 is a second-generation, quad 32-Gbps-per-channel, linear MZM driver developed and optimized for long-haul telecommunications based on next-generation 100G/400G coherent transmission systems.

GigOptix says the release of a power-efficient linear driver will further strengthen the company’s position in the long-haul driver market. The GX62472 delivers leading performance with a typical reduction of power enabling 2.1W per channel, the company asserts. The power reduction was achieved in the GX62472 while demonstrating excellent total harmonic distortion performance, GigOptix adds.

“We have demonstrated significant power savings for all four channels compared to the earlier generation of devices,” said Andrea Betti-Berutto, chief technical officer at GigOptix. “The new GX62472 device has a 30% power reduction achievement and enables our customers to target higher data rates via advanced modulation formats, and smaller form factors where power consumption is of increasing concern.”

Lower-power linear MZM drivers will enable faster adoption of next-generation systems and help GigOptix’ customers work towards terabit systems, he adds.
