CODEON Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of modulators, optical transponder components and modules for the fiber optic telecommunications industry, announced CIENA Corporation has selected its 12.5 Gb/s Intensity Modulator, part of CODEON's Mach-10 product family, for use within the MultiWave CoreStream product. The CoreStream 10 Gb/s WDM transceiver uses out-of-band forward error correction (FEC) requiring the additional bandwidth provided by the Mach-10 modulator.

CODEON modulators are distinguished by several key attributes including broad frequency response, long-term bias stability, low RF drive voltage, and all are hermetically packaged an environmental and long-term reliability advantage not provided by all component manufacturers. Each is made of lithium niobate, an optoelectronic material that provides superior performance for metro, regional, and long-haul optical transport applications.
