FEBRUARY 19, 2008 -- Photline Technologies (search for Photline Technologies) says its MXLV-LN-10 modulator is specially designed for duobinary transmission formats.

The MXLV-LN-10 modulator's low control voltage of less than 4 V (3.75 V typical) enables the use of economical, low-power RF driving electronics to produce the required 2 x Vp modulation voltage, say company representatives. The use of low V π modulators opens the door to transmitters with less power consumption that are potentially more compact, less expensive, and more reliable.

The MXLV-LN-10 is available with a very low loss option that brings down its optical insertion loss below the 3-B threshold. A low loss also contributes to more compact and reliable transmitters by relaxing the power performance of the lasers and of their driving electronics, say company representatives.
