ADC Telecommunications Inc., Minneapolis, has acquired 50% of Yonkers, NY-based Codenoll Technology Corp., a supplier of fiber-optic Ethernet computer local area network systems. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. At the same time, Codenoll announced 100-Mbit/sec fast Ethernet and switched Ethernet products known as CodeNet-Centaur. Among the products are switches with 200-Mbit/sec throughput, 100-Mbit/sec transceivers for workstations and a family of 10-Mbit/sec active hubs.

In addition, ADC has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Directorate General of Telecommunications, Post & Telecommunications, China (China Telecom). Under the agreement, ADC will participate in China Telecom`s first hybrid fiber/coaxial-cable (HFC) network trial, the goal of which is to help increase the availability of voice, data and video services throughout China.

During the next five years, China plans to install between 75 million and 100 million new lines for telephony service. A significant portion of this service is expected to be delivered over an HFC network.
