Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Corp., Research Triangle Park, NC, and Honeywell`s Micro Switch Div., Freeport, IL, plan to collaborate on medium- to high-speed fiber-optic modules. This effort combines Sumitomo`s long-wavelength, 1300-nm technology and Honeywell`s short-wavelength vertical cavity surface-emitting laser capabilities to provide optical transceivers for communications applications, including Asynchronous Transfer Mode, Gigabit Ethernet, and Fibre Channel.
