EXFO offers polarization-maintaining tunable laser output option

January 24, 2002 -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (Quebec City, Canada) introduced a new polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber output option on three models of C+L-band tunable laser sources: IQS-, IQ- and FLS-2600B.

Whether for the characterization of PM passive components or components sensitive to the input state of polarization (SOP), such as arrayed waveguides or wavelength lockers, the new PM fiber option ensures a >18dB extinction ratio and a known polarization state at the source output making it possible to fully characterize a component's response as a function of the SOP.

"Polarization is as important as wavelengths when dealing with filters and selective bandwidth devices," said Mario Larose, Vice-President of Marketing at EXFO. "As a result, we now offer an optional polarization-maintaining fiber at the connector of our C- and L-band tunable laser sources."
