Stratos Lightwave announces SONET-compliant high-density optical transceivers for OC-3 and OC-12
Stratos Lightwave, Inc. (Nasdaq: STLW) is introducing a new family of high-density SONET-compliant optical transceivers for OC-3 and OC-12 data rates. These miniaturized transceivers are ideal for next generation Metropolitan area networking equipment applications.
All Stratos SONET-compliant transceivers meet ITU-T G.957 & G.958, and Bellcore (Telcordia) GR-468 & TR-NWT-000253. These transceivers exhibit exceptionally low levels of jitter over the full Bellcore operating temperature range of -40 degrees to +85 degrees C.
Stratos offers SONET-compliant high-density optical transceivers in three different form factors: A 2 x 5 SFF (MSA-compliant) package, a single-port RJ-style package, and a quad-port RJ-style package. Each will be available in OC-3, OC-12, and a multi-rate version that will operate at either OC-3 or OC-12.
The RJ-format transceivers are the smallest fully SONET-compliant optical transceivers on the market, and Stratos is the world's first manufacturer to offer SONET-compliant transceivers in such compact packaging. These innovative modules use multi-die hybrid technology to integrate a complete optical transceiver into a package the size of an industry standard RJ-style housing alone. They will enable OEM customers to design systems with increased levels of port density while maintaining the traditional levels of performance and reliability required for SONET-compliant equipment.
To continue to meet the growing needs of SONET-compliant networking, Stratos has OC-48 versions of these transceivers under development.
Pricing for Stratos Lightwave's SONET-compliant transceivers depends upon the requirements of the specific application and is a function of variables such as packaging, data rate, optical wavelength, quantity ordered, etc. Delivery is typically in 12 to 14 weeks.
