FEBRUARY 3, 2009 -- Fibre Technologies Ltd. has introduced two flexible 10-Gbps multiprotocol transponders--FCX10G and FCX10G2--that will increase available bandwidth and improve traffic management, without the need for a costly network upgrade, say company representatives.
New additions to the range of manageable system products from German access specialist arcutronix, these fibre-optic transponders allow data transmission via single or dual independent channels, each supporting data rates of 9.5 Gbps up to 11.32 Gbps, making them ideal for all 10-Gb applications, such as Ethernet LAN/WAN, SDH/Sonet, Fibre Channel, Fibre Channel with FEC (forward error correction) and OTN (optical transport network).
According to Fibre Technologies, the modular FCX10G enables customers to deliver multiple services across a single optical access link and can be mounted within single slot housings or sub rack configurations, reducing onsite hardware. With pluggable XFPs and 3R functionality, the FCX10G/FCX10G2 transponders offer increased bandwidth; smaller form factor; an improved performance monitoring capability; and lower latency across both long and short haul connections. The arcutronix devices offer data transmission of up to 80km for each port.
"Today, the market demands Ethernet solutions that offer longer transmission lengths with reduced data error rates and latency," explains Juergen Schroeder, CEO of arcutronix. "Customers want increased bandwidth and the ability to transmit various protocols over the same optical link. The FCX10G enables us to meet these expectations and future-proof customer networks."
"Access networks have long posed cost and performance challenges for operators and service providers; these new 10G transponders products from arcutronix will provide our customers with the ability to transmit over longer distances with the peace of mind that network performance will not be impacted," adds Ian Hunt, managing director of Fibre Technologies. "Demand for triple- and quad-play services has increased dramatically over recent years, placing additional pressures on operators, so these products should offer some welcome relief.
"Many of our existing customers who have 10/100-Mbps or 1-Gbps network deployments today based on other recent arcutronix products or earlier Pandatel platforms can now enjoy a fast time to deployment and new service revenues with the simple addition of this new 10-Gbps product set to their existing network infrastructure deployments," he concludes.
