MARCH 30, 2007 -- Santur Corp. (search for Santur), manufacturer of widely tunable transmitters for the telecommunications industry, has entered into a strategic long-term supply agreement with StrataLight (search for StrataLight), a global provider of 40-Gbit/sec next-generation optical transponders and subsystems.
"Santur has a proven and highly reliable tunable DFB [distributed feedback] array technology," comments Shri Dodani, president and chief executive officer, StrataLight. "StrataLight, being the leading 40G system and subsystem provider, needed a supplier that could meet our product performance, quality, and production ramp required for the 40G optical network deployment of our service provider customers."
Santur says its patented DFB-array technology enables the fabrication of broadly tunable sources at the same performance and reliability as fixed DFB lasers. The Telcordia GR-468 compliant products are said to achieve high power without the use of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), wide tunability with no possibility of mode hops, and stability in harsh environments.
"We are very pleased with this vote of confidence in Santur, and our ability to deliver highly reliable, widely tunable lasers to the global telecom market," says Paul Meissner, Santur chief executive officer. "We are excited to partner with StrataLight to meet this high-growth market demand."
In other news, this week at OFC/NFOEC 2007, StrataLight also launched its new 40-/43-Gbit 300-pin multisource agreement (MSA) optical VSR module, the OTM-400, which measure less than 60% of the current industry-standard size. According to the company, the module provides a serial 40-/43-Gbit/sec optical interface for interconnection of OC-768, STM-256 and G.709 OTU-3 clients over distances up to 2 km over singlemode fiber. The OTM-400 is fully compliant with OIF SFI-5 electrical interface requirements and with the ITU-T G.693 optical interface specification. StrataLight will begin sampling the module in May, with general availability scheduled for July.
