VPIphotonics debuts VPIlinkConfigurator v.2.5
SEPTEMBER 18, 2007 — VPIphotonics, a division of VPIsystems, released version 2.5 of its VPIlinkConfigurator for automatic optical network equipment configuration at ECOC, Booth 13016. The release promises a more flexible user interface, expanded import functionalities for vendor equipment characterization and synthesis rules, and enhanced modeling and information sharing.
The next-generation VPIlinkConfigurator is designed to enable faster responses to optical network design tasks, product application requests, and requests for quotes (RFQs). Engineers are able to design complex optical transmission systems and predict performance limitations using proprietary algorithms through a graphical user interface (GUI). The product's link modeling capabilities verify designs against all physical-layer design rules and optimize plans for cost, taking into account available equipment choices. VPIlinkConfigurator v.2.5 automatically creates bills of materials (BOMs) and performance reports.
This release includes an enhanced application programming interface, allowing users to import custom-built equipment characterization and synthesis routines. It also offers simplified sharing capabilities for designs and libraries, with or without encryption. An updated link equipment display can be toggled between compact and expanded view, revealing the internal architecture of composite items. Monitor points at arbitrary locations along a link allow users to extract information on goals and actual performance in either graphical or numeric format.
