Micrel launches low-power limiting post amp for SFPsÂ
JUNE 25, 2007 -- Micrel Inc. (search for Micrel) today launched the SY88973BL, a low-power limiting post amplifier designed for use in fiber-optic receivers. Specifically, it is ideal for 1.25- and 2.5-Gigabit Ethernet (GbE); 1.062-Mbit/sec and 2.125-Gbit/sec Fibre Channel; Gigabit interface converter (GBIC); small form factor (SFF) and small form factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers; parallel 10-GbE; high-gain line drivers; and line receivers in both the telecom/datacom and optical transceiver markets.Â
Â
"Micrel's post amplifier family has received wide customer acceptance in part because the entire line offers universally interchangeable parts," reports Thomas S. Wong, vice president of high-bandwidth products at Micrel. "Like the rest of the post amp family, our new device is also easy to use in a wide variety of applications and data rates and meets the industry's most stringent jitter requirements."
Â
The SY88973BL incorporates a loss-of-signal (LOS), open-collector TTL output with an external 4.75k Ω to 10k Ω pull-up resistor. According to the company, this IC offers multi-rate capability from 622 Mbits/sec up to 3.2 Gbits/sec operation. It also features internal 50 Ω data input and low-noise 50 Ω CML data output, say company representatives. The SY88973BL has chatter-free OC-TTL LOS output with programmable LOS sensitivity using a single external resistor.Â
Available in a 3- x 3-mm 16-pin MLF package, the device operates from a single +3.3V ±10% power supply, over an industrial temperature range of â40 ° C to +85 ° C.Â
The SY88973BL is currently available in volume quantities and is priced at $3.31 in quantities of 1,000. A free evaluation board also is available.
