Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Corp. (Research Triangle Park, NC) and Optical Communications Products Inc. (Chatsworth, CA) agreed in principle to offer multisourced 2.5-Gbit/sec optical transmitter, receiver, and transceiver modules for high-speed fiber-optic applications. The companies will provide products with compatible interfaces and specifications in common form factors and footprints. These products will support sonet/sdh and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) transmissions over a range of distances, fiber types, and wavelengths.
