Communications system

The 32-channel WaveMux 3200 unidirectional system operates within a 1550-nm optical window and is upgradable to 64 channels. Up to six line amplifiers can be cascaded to provide 600 km of unregenerated, all-optical transmission. Three 600-km sections can be arranged in a back-to-back chain configuration using a new line extender module with bit-error-rate monitoring for a total transmission distance of 1800 km. The unit is compatible with Sonet and sdh line terminal equipment. It has optical adm capability at each amplifier site, providing a flexible platform for point-to-point, chain, and ring configurations.
