mci has ordered $82 million of digital crossconnect systems from Alcatel, Richardson, TX. The orders include mainly the company`s 1633 SX broadband and 1631 SX wideband Sonet crossconnect systems. Alcatel says that mci will use the 1633 SX in its backbone network infrastructure to provide large-capacity, direct Sonet OC-12 ports. mci will use the 1631 SX to replace asynchronous M13 multiplexers and provide advanced groom and fill functionality.
