October 29, 2002 -- Corning has entered into a supply agreement with Huawei Technologies, a telecommunications equipment provider based in China. Under the agreement, Corning will be Huawei's principal supplier of single-channel erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) for its high-speed transport system.

The agreement marks the start of a strategic relationship for the supply of optical amplifiers and pump lasers by Corning to Huawei. "Strength in amplifier design, pump lasers and passive components confirmed our decision to partner with Corning," said Pingan Zhang, senior vice president, Optical Networking Systems, Huawei Technologies.

Huawei will use the Corning PureGain 1000 amplifier platform in its OptiX 10-Gbit/sec SDH optical network systems. The amplifier platform will be tailored to meet Huawei's needs.

"We are pleased Huawei selected Corning PureGain EDFAs to complement their OptiX 10G optical transport platform," said Gerald Fine, senior vice president and general manager, Corning Photonic Technologies. "This supply agreement marks the start of what we expect to be a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship."
