The psc 2480 optical line interface unit operates as part of the manufacturer`s psc 240 digital loop carrier (dlc) to allow service providers to migrate from their current local-loop environment to a fully digitized, high-bandwidth local loop by way of sdh networks. As a result, these providers can roll out higher-speed services and applications such as high-speed data transfers, Internet access, broadband isdn, and video services to their own end-user customer base. Because it integrates with the provider`s dlc system, the device eliminates the need for sdh add/drop multiplexers. The unit facilitates network expansion for point-to-point, linear add/drop, and ring network topologies; ensures uninterrupted service through unidirectional path-switched ring protection; and provides a growth path for future broadband service offerings.
