Wavelength-selective switch (WSS) specialist CoAdna Photonics, Inc. has unveiled a new WSS series that operates over the entire CWDM band. It is designed to provide wavelength switching for all sets of CWDM transceivers under either ITU standard channel spacing or any customized channel spacing. It also is “empowered” by the software-defined networking (SDN) movement, CoAdna says.
While typical WSSs cover the C-Band for use in long-haul and metro DWDM networks, the new CWDM WSS series is designed specifically for enterprise and data center networks where CWDM transceivers are more commonly used. CoAdna envisions a growing interest in such modules as bandwidth increases cause data center networks to adopt flattened fiber-optic network infrastructures. They will be available in both 1xN and Nx1 configurations.
CoAdna has based the modules on its LightFlow platform, which leverages the advantages of liquid crystal technology to provide high reliability and low power consumption.
“CoAdna strives to provide complete ROADM solutions to our customers. We are committed to continuous product innovations that address future network needs.” asserts Dr. Jack Kelly, CTO of CoAdna. “With the CWDM WSS product series, we will be able to supply a complete WSS solution to the optical networking industry, covering applications from long-haul core to intra-data center networking.”
