Pulse announces the immediate availability of a new, quad-port T1/E1 transformer module that reduces board space, parts count, and engineering cost for a variety of telecommunications applications. The only one of its kind, the T9021 combines eight transformers (four transmit and four receive) and a surge protection diode array into a single module.

The T9021 is ideal for providing chip-side protection for integrated circuits (ICs) used in customer premises equipment (CPE) or telephone company multiplexers, wide area networks (WANs), internet-working interfaces, digital access cross-connect systems (DACS), channel banks and switches.

In most telecommunications applications, protection circuitry is needed to prevent equipment damage caused by over-voltage and over-current power surges due to lightning strikes and AC power cross disturbances. Fully matched and compatible with PMC-Sierra's Comet chip when used with other recommended protection circuitry components, the T9021 was designed to meet the major surge immunity and electrical safety standards, including Bellcore GR 1089, FCC Part 68, and UL 1459/1950.

The T9021, with its integrated diode array, is an effective solution for providing the IC side protection circuit while reducing the number of board-level discrete components. The transformer will provide the required 1500 Vrms line isolation, and the diode array will protect the high-speed data interfaces from over-voltages caused by electrostatic discharge and electrical fast transients.

In keeping with its history of producing the highest-quality, smallest-profile magnetic devices, Pulse's T9021 is the first and only quad-port T1/E1 device with integrated IC-side protection. It features the patented InterLock base construction that ensures high reliability by minimizing human handling of sub-components during assembly, while the 1500 Vrms isolation ensures compliance with UL 1950.

Pulse is developing an entire family of quad-port T1/E1 transformer modules with IC-side protection to match other leading T1/E1 IC manufacturers.

The T9021 is available in tube or tape-and-reel packaging and is compatible with most high-speed pick-and-place equipment. Priced from $12.75 in 25,000-piece quantities, the transformers are available from stock. Volume price discounts are offered. Details are listed in data sheet T657 available at http://www.pulseeng.com/pdf/8657.pdf.
