17 MARCH 2009 -- Azzurri Communications -- a UK managed services company offering voice, data and mobile communications -- has partnered with Sorrento Networks (search Lightwave for Sorrento) to deliver more high bandwidth applications and services over optical networks.

Sorrento's metro optical access platforms are helping Azzurri clients such as Neos Networks, part of the Scottish and Southern Energy Group, to increase the capacity of their existing fiber networks. In addition, Azzurri offers a Virtual Network Operator (VNO) model that provides carrier-independent connectivity to deliver high bandwidth capacity over metro networks.

"New technologies from Web 2.0 to mobile broadband are putting further pressure on network infrastructures," said David Macfarlane, CTO of Azzurri. "As most carriers and enterprises don't want to invest in traditional telco assets, Sorrento's advanced wave-division multiplexing technology enables them to add capacity and flexibility to existing optical networks. We see a major opportunity in delivering turnkey solutions or VNO services to meet this growing demand for bandwidth."

Sorrento's product line includes GigaMux and GigaEdge D/CWDM multiplexers and the 10 Gigabit Optical Ethernet Transport (OET) line card that is designed to enable users to rapidly add multiple Gigabit Ethernet circuits to existing networks.
