MARCH 20, 2007 -- CoAdna Photonics Inc. (search for CoAdna) has announced that its liquid crystal-based wavelength selective switch (WSS) 8x1 and 1x8 modules have been fully tested according to Telcordia standards and successfully passed all the tests. This confirms expectations that the CoAdna WSS modules will perform reliably in the field, the company asserts.
"CoAdna's WSS modules have undergone a series of extreme environmental and mechanical stress tests designed to assess the reliability of a product according to the industry standards. The tests followed the conditions outlined in Telcordia GR-1073 and other Telcordia standards," said Dr. Hudson Washburn, vice president of engineering of CoAdna Photonics. "We are very pleased with the successful and on-schedule completion of the Telcordia qualifications. This adds CoAdna's 8x1 and 1x8 WSS to the list of previously qualified GA products DCEB WB, 4x1, and 1x4 WSS modules that have been deployed in large volume carrying live traffic."
The WSS module is based on CoAdna's proprietary LightFlow liquid crystal technology, which has no moving parts, providing high reliability and long life, the company asserts. "The module offers excellent performance with highly integrated functionality in a small footprint, remote configurability via embedded firmware and software, scalability, and extremely low power consumption. The WSS is capable of dynamically and selectively passing, switching to colorless ports, broadcasting, blocking, and attenuating different wavelengths in a DWDM system. The WSS modules can be implemented for multi-degree dynamically reconfigurable optical add and drop multiplexing (MD-ROADM) as well as wavelength cross connects (WXCs)," said Dr. Jack Kelly, vice president and CTO of CoAdna Photonics.

CoAdna will perform live demonstrations of these WSS modules at its OFC/NFOEC 2007 Booth #2855 at Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, California, March 27-29, 2007.
