March 22, 2005 Oriskany, NY -- The CrossFire fiber-optic test set from FIS is an automated, dual-wavelength , bi-directional tester that measures insertion loss and optical return loss (ORL). The watertight unit is housed in a "ruggedized" case that includes a removable cover.

According to the company, the tester works quickly and precisely, featuring a power meter accuracy of +/- 0.3 dB and an ORL accuracy of +/- 0.5 dB @ 55 dB. Typical battery life is 16 hours. The tester stores up to 1,000 test results. An RS-32 port is provided for connecting to a PC or printer. The package also includes an operating manual, power supply, and universal 2.5-mm adapter.

The company notes that bi-directional testing requires two units.
