August 8, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Sunrise Telecom recently introduced its STT Dispersion Test Module (DTM), which the company says tests singlemode fibers through a single fiber and a single connection for both Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) and Chromatic Dispersion (CD).
According to the company, as networks upgrade to OC-192/STM-64 or 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) in metro and long haul networks, it's critical that fiber dispersion be measured and controlled, in order to avoid increased transmission error rates.
The company says its DTM uses photon counting detection technology and direct time of flight technique to measure the group delay and CD at each wavelength. The company says its photon counting technology uses much lower intensity and shorter optical pulses than competitive devices, while providing greater time and wavelength accuracy.
The device's source consists of a broadband LED. The company says that PMD measurements can also be performed via module, using the ITU-approved fixed-analyzer method.
