Peleton intros tunable multi-wavelength laser

The company says the TM3100C-T provides the added flexibility offered by a tunable source, combined with the key features of the company's unique multi-wavelength laser technology.

September 21, 2005 Ottawa, Canada -- Peleton, a developer and manufacturer of multi-wavelength lasers for applications in optical test and measurement, networking, and photonic sensing, today announced the availability of its TM3100C-T tunable multi-wavelength laser source. The company says the TM3100C-T provides the added flexibility offered by a tunable source, combined with the key features of the company's unique multi-wavelength laser technology.

According to the company, like its previous products, the new product is a multi-channel laser, providing 40 wavelengths locked to the ITU-T grid from a single optical fiber. However, the company says that with the TM3100C-T, the ability to tune the entire grid by +/- 20 GHz has been added, making it possible to precisely set the laser to frequencies on either side of the ITU-T central frequencies. The company says this flexibility has been added without compromising the compactness, flat-spectrum, and high output power of the equipment.

The company says the laser is useful in passive component testing since it allows components and modules to be scanned across their passbands, providing more information than can be obtained from a single point measurement.

"By adding tunability, the TM3100C-T has the additional flexibility and ease of use that many of our customers desire," says Velko Tzolov, vice-president of marketing and sales for Peleton. "We are seeing a growing demand for flexible multi-wavelength solutions driven by equipment and module vendors that are looking for scalable, easier to manage multi-wavelength test solutions for the design and manufacturing of their products."

In addition to its new tunable offering, the company also offers the TM3050C, a 96-channel multi-wavelength source at 50 GHz channel spacing, and the TM3100C, a 40-channel, 100GHz version. The company also produces a series of optical channel controllers, which it says provide accurate attenuation and blocking of individual DWDM channels.

A variety of remote interfaces are available for the products, including serial, GPIB, and Ethernet control interfaces.
