Acterna launches ultra long-haul OTDR module

April 22, 2005 Germantown, MD -- Acterna has expanded its T-BERD/MTS-8000 field optical test platform to include an ultra long-haul (UHD) optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) module that, according to the company, achieves a range of 50 dB at the 1550-nm wavelength.

The UHD module can be configured as a single-, dual-, or triple-wavelength OTDR (1310/1550/1625 nm). Designed for testing over very long distances, the module also provides superior testing precision on medium and long-range networks, enabling test completion six times faster than with a 40-dB OTDR, according to the company.
