JDSU (NASDAQ:JDSU) (TSX: JDU) says its new T-BERD/MTS-2000 compact modular test set is the first field test and measurement platform that enables hands-free operation. It is designed to perform a wide range of test applications for virtually every type of optical fiber network.

JDSU (NASDAQ:JDSU) (TSX: JDU) says its new T-BERD/MTS-2000 compact modular test set is the first field test and measurement platform that enables hands-free operation. It is designed to perform a wide range of test applications for virtually every type of optical fiber network.

The T-BERD/MTS-2000 is designed for simplicity, mobility, and ease of use, particularly for technicians who are just getting accustomed to testing fiber-optic networks as part of FTTx rollouts. "As fixed-line broadband networks and mobile backhaul networks step up the transition to optical solutions, technicians schooled in copper technology are managing an increasing amount of fiber roll outs," said Enzo Di Luigi, vice president and general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business unit. "Our new T-BERD/MTS-2000 transforms every technician into a fiber expert so they can perform all the tests required to ensure optimized performance and high-quality fiber networks."

The modular nature of the T-BERD/MTS-2000 enables the test kit to integrate the capabilities of several traditional standalone test devices into a single unit. JDSU says it has designed the test system to perform these tests quickly to improve field productivity and reduce operating expenses. It also is compatible with JDSU’s FiberComplete, SmartOTDR, and P5000i digital inspection analysis offerings.
