FEBRUARY 29, 2008 -- Greenlee (search for Greenlee), a Textron company, this week announced the addition of the 920XC, a singlemode handheld optical time domain reflectometer (search for OTDR), to its family of test instrumentation. The 920XC OTDR is used for cable acceptance testing and fault locating and is used by technicians installing and maintaining fiber.
The 920XC performs cable acceptance testing, measuring loss and distance to all events (including connectors and splices) on the fiber span as well as span loss. All measurement results can be transferred to a PC for documentation of cable acceptance testing. Greenlee representatives say the 920XC is an excellent instrument to use to perform fault locating; the 920XC AutoTest mode enables the user to connect the fiber and automatically get the distance to the fiber fault.
The 920XC series handheld OTDR is designed to fully embody the user's convenience with its large color LCD display and graphical user interface, notes the company. The user can activate the measurements function easily by the press of one button. The 920XC series handheld OTDR features a protective rubber boot and a sealed membrane panel Run/Stop button to automatically chose setting and run OTDR test.
Menu functions for settings and trace store and recall are also available. The OTDR includes a DC charger port with dust cover and a USB port for data transfer. Also included is a visual fault locator port with dust cover. The NiMH batteries provide five hours of continuous use.
Greenlee says the 920XC compliments its existing line of fiber-optic instrumentation tools, including the XL fiberTOOLS, 525 Series, OFM Fiber Monitors, and custom F/O assemblies with other harsh environment connectors.
