JDSU adds 4G and 10G Fibre Channel test functionality to T-BERD/MTS-8000
FEBRUARY 11, 2008 -- JDSU (search for JDSU) today introduced what it claims is the industry's first field device to combine 4G and 10G Fibre Channel test support with traditional transport test capabilities such as SONET/SDH, Ethernet, and OTN. Available for the T-BERD/MTS-8000 Transport module, the new functionality is engineered to address the growing demands for installation and troubleshooting of Fibre Channel services in metro networks, say company representatives.Â
Â
In addition to the Fibre Channel functionality, new features in this release include support for Layer 4 TCP simulation for troubleshooting next-generation Ethernet/IP services; Ethernet client testing capability for 11.05- and 11.1-Gbit/sec OTN networks; and support for the installation and troubleshooting of IPTV networks. Support for IPTV applications will include monitoring and analyzing MPEG-2 streams, accessing them via Internet Group Multicast Protocol (IGMP), and performing true quality-of-service (QoS) analysis, including the ability to verify packet loss, packet jitter, media delivery index (MDI), distance error and period errors, program clock reference (PCR) jitter, and TR 101 290-based statistics, and analyze programs and their packet IDs (PIDs) per stream.

"Fibre Channel is a disruptive technology presenting new challenges in the design and deployment of high-bandwidth next-generation fiber networks," contends Dave Holly, senior vice president and general manager of JDSU's field service Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "With its new Fibre Channel and related triple-play test functionality, the T-BERD/MTS-8000 continues to serve our customers as the only test tool on the market that combines these technologies in a single test solution, enabling them to build their triple-play networks and service metro network technologies."
Â
JDSU says it offers the industry's only single-source metro Ethernet test portfolio that facilitates analysis of all seven layers of metro Ethernet services--the metro Ethernet deployment "lifecycle" that includes lab and service verification testing. The company's portfolio of broadband-enabling test equipment includes its T-BERD/MTS-8000; NetComplete for metro Ethernet (including the QT-600); HST-3000; DA-3400/3600; SmartClass Ethernet; FST-2802; ONT and TestPoint product lines. JDSU claims its portfolio provides an integrated, end-to-end approach to testing metro Ethernet products and services, including development and production, installation and maintenance, troubleshooting, and overall service assurance.
Â
Combining multiple test capabilities and field modularity, JDSU's T-BERD/MTS-8000 is a scalable field platform for installing and maintaining short-haul, long-haul, FTTx, metro, CWDM, transport, data, and DWDM networks, say company representatives. Advanced modularity enables the T-BERD/MTS-8000 to integrate options for video microscope, VFL, light source, power meter, and optical talk set with application modules for SONET, SDH, Ethernet, multimode and singlemode OTDRs, polarization mode dispersion (PMD), spectral attenuation, chromatic dispersion (CD), WDM, and single-port and dual-port OSA.
