FEBRUARY 25, 2008 - JDSU today announced that its pocket-sized line of fiber-optic testers is available through an authorized network of distributors. The family of products includes power meters and laser sources designed for specific applications in telecommunications, cable, and enterprise environments. The products will be on display at OFC/NFOEC 2008 in San Diego, CA, this week.

Addressing basic functionalities needed for fiber-optic power measurement and loss testing, JDSU's pocket-sized light sources and optical power meters provide accurate measurements in an entry-level unit. Just 3.9 in. long (10 cm), the testers are also fully interoperable with the company's fiber inspection and cleaning products by providing results from the device under test once the fiber is inspected and cleaned.

Tester models include the OLP-5, OLP-6, and OLP-8 optical power meters for universal, singlemode, and multimode power measurement and loss testing capabilities. The OLS-5 and OLS-6 offer extended battery operating times. The testers feature a "twin-test" function that allows simultaneous singlemode and multimode tests, cutting test times in LAN and WAN environments.

The handheld testers are designed to protect the instruments from damage, and a one-year warranty protects the instruments from manufacturing defects. All JDSU optical handheld testers are calibrated to traceable national standards, and although a three-year calibration interval is recommended under normal operation conditions, it is not required.
