SEPTEMBER 8, 2009 -- Spirent Communications plc has introduced the Spirent TestCenter HyperMetrics 40/100 Gigabit Ethernet test module. Designed to test the performance and scalability of 40/100G Ethernet systems and services, the new module focuses on application realism, accuracy, and performance per port, reducing operational expenses and total cost of ownership (TCO), according to Spirent.
“As service providers prepare to deploy 40/100G Ethernet networks next year, they have to test optical transport, IP routers, and Carrier Ethernet systems for performance, scale, and quality of experience,” stated Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. "Service providers and network equipment manufacturers need reliable testing products to ensure that the 40G and 100G Ethernet equipment -- which promises to perform at up to 10 times current speeds and scale -- actually delivers. Of the Ethernet testing gear we have seen to date, Spirent's is among the best, especially at simulating real world services.”
Spirent says its TestCenter HyperMetrics 40/100G Ethernet module delivers several industry firsts, including the generation of realistic multiplay traffic for the highest scale edge and core IP services testing, the highest performance per port, and the maximum return on investment. Leveraging Spirent’s HyperMetrics multi-core processor, the new test module can validate performance, scalability and realism. In addition Layer 2-7, the new module also performs Layer 1 functional testing.
“Spirent is advancing 40/100G Ethernet deployments by delivering better performance and scalability testing,” said Jeff Schmitz, vice president of performance analysis, Spirent. “By offering a solution that addresses the dual challenge of scaling the upper-layer engines to deliver services and providing the highest quality of experience at four to ten times the current rate, we ensure that our customers maintain brand credibility and subscriber confidence.”
