APRIL 30, 2009 -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (search Lightwave for EXFO) has released the ARU-100 HPNA Test Probe for the AXS-200/600 series. The new probe, based on the specifications of the Home Phone-Line Networking Alliance (HPNA), is specially designed for the characterization of HPNA deployments and triple-play services in FTTx environments.

HPNA technology is being deployed by service providers as it provides the reliability and performance needed to deliver bandwidth-intensive triple-play services. By allowing reuse of the existing wires in the home, HPNA is gaining popularity for in-home distribution of triple-play services.

The EXFO ARU-100 HPNA Test Probe is designed to offer service providers a cost-effective tool for installing and troubleshooting HPNA triple-play networks. Coupled with the AXS-200/600 series, the ARU-100 is engineered to enable service providers to not only prequalify and troubleshoot the physical-layer aspects of the coaxial home network but also enable a full range of triple-play testing via the HPNA network. EXFO asserts the AXS-200/600 series is the first product available that can address the need to perform triple-play QoS testing in the HPNA environment.

Residential HPNA deployments are applicable to fiber and copper access networks, two environments in which the AXS-200/600 series can be utilized. Many QoS measurements can be performed such as HPNA device discovery, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), data rates, attenuation, spectral noise as well as a wide range of VoIP, IPTV, and data analysis, EXFO says. All QoS parameters are compared against user-definable pass/fail criteria to simplify the testing process and help service providers identify and locate problem areas in the home network.
