MAY 13, 2009 -- Sunrise Telecom Inc. (search Lightwave for Sunrise Telecom) says its SunLite GigE Ethernet test offering was selected by a Tier 1 European network operator for the installation and maintenance of its next-generation Ethernet network in an agreement that will exceed $1 million. Sunrise didn't reveal the name of the carrier.

Sunrise says the SunLite GigE will be used by field technicians and engineers who may not be experienced with emerging metro Ethernet technologies and who need an easy-to-use instrument for Ethernet and IP testing anywhere in the network. The SunLite GigE was chosen by the management team because navigating the user interface is easy and allows the field engineers to become productive quickly, Sunrise says. In addition, the unit's palm size and reliability also were factors. The SunLite GigE will be deployed "on a large scale throughout the country," the company concluded.
