January 25, 2006 Quebec City, Canada -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering has released its FTB-150 Compact OTDR, which the company says provides complete fiber characterization, supporting any singlemode configuration at up to four essential wavelengths, among 850-, 1300-, 1310-, 1490-, 1550-, and 1625-nm.

The company says the lightweight, non-modular handheld instrument is ideal for installers who characterize local and wide area networks (LANs/WANs), enterprise networks, and premises wiring, in that it allows various multimode and singlemode configurations in the same unit. According to the company, regardless of the selected OTDR setup, the instrument provides a stable light source and visual fault locator on an optional basis. The device supports a Windows CE/Mobile user interface.

"This multi-purpose OTDR is the most complete fiber characterization tool for LAN/WAN, enterprise, and premises wiring test applications," remarks Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's vice president of optical testing. "Whether field technicians need to certify premises networks, characterize links during installation, or maintain and troubleshoot private networks, the FTB-150 OTDR delivers the required performance."
