Triple-play digital services analysis meter includes sweep functionality

The company says the DSAM 6000 is among the first handheld test instruments on the market to combine complete sweep test functionality with the ability to support VoIP, high-speed data (HSD), and digital/analog video deployments.

February 2, 2006 San Jose, CA -- JDSU has launched its Digital Services Analysis Meter (DSAM) 6000, a platform extension of the company's DSAM series that integrates the company's Stealth Sweep technology. The company says the DSAM 6000 is among the first handheld test instruments on the market to combine complete sweep test functionality with the ability to support VoIP, high-speed data (HSD), and digital/analog video deployments.

According to the company, by incorporating forward and reverse sweep functions, the DSAM-6000 is able to identify transmission errors that cause digital impairments by measuring the frequency response of the network. Non-interfering, continuously referenced sweep tracing helps reveal physical errors in the network that influence transmitted signals, allowing an operator to transmit all signals with proper noise specifications and the lowest distortion.

"JDSU is proud to introduce this important enhancement to our award-winning DSAM platform, making it an all-in-one network test meter for the efficient and reliable delivery of services such as VoIP," comments Kevin Oliver, vice president of marketing for JDSU's cable networks business unit. "Our patented Stealth Sweep technology - found in JDSU's widely deployed SDA-5000 series - is now embedded in the DSAM, ensuring compatibility with meters in use by so many operators today."

The company says the DSAM-6000 is designed to meet the test and measurement needs of network maintenance technicians tasked with ensuring that service and signals are performing optimally. The device integrates all of the data, voice, and video services support of the previous DSAM models (including the company's VoIPCheck, Return QAM Generator, and TechComplete features) with the sweep capabilities of the company's stealth digital analyzers (SDAs).

According to the company, for operators currently deploying the SDA-5000 line, the DSAM-6000 works with the SDA-5000 in the field as well as interactively with existing SDA-5500/5510s in the headend, without an operator having to make any modifications, conduct new training, or initiate additional roll-outs to the field.

The company's DSAM triple-play field test meter is used by technicians to install and service data, voice and video. The device performs both traditional and advanced services tests, and also provides SLM test functions of analog video and audio levels and digital power levels, as well as digital analysis on QAM downstream carriers including digital video and cable modem services. A handheld CATV field test meter able to measure up to a full 1 GHz, it also features DOCSIS and PacketCable VoIP services.
