AUGUST 10, 2010 -- EXFO Inc. says it has increased the processing speed of its FTB-5240S Optical Spectrum Analyzer, which is purpose-built for fast and accurate DWDM network commissioning and high-speed network upgrades up to 40G. The module now operates 10X to 20X faster, depending on the application being run, EXFO asserts.

AUGUST 10, 2010 -- EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF) says it has increased the processing speed of its FTB-5240S Optical Spectrum Analyzer, which is purpose-built for fast and accurate DWDM network commissioning and high-speed network upgrades up to 40G. The module now operates 10X to 20X faster, depending on the application being run, EXFO asserts.

When equipped with in-band optical-signal-to-noise-ratio (OSNR) measurement capabilities, the FTB-5240S is designed to be a field-grade 40G and ROADM network commissioning tool. EXFO’s proprietary in-band OSNR test method delivers highly accurate measurements for next-generation systems in which noise can fluctuate from channel to channel, the company says.

The processing speed increase significantly accelerates the FTB-5240S’s applications, EXFO believes. For example, all acquisitions are now performed 10X faster, re-analysis using different parameters is now 14X faster, and trace loading is now 20X faster, the company explains.

“As a proven test and service assurance leader, EXFO’s priority is to continuously make the industry’s best products even better, and to anticipate the evolving needs of its customers. At a time when many carriers are accelerating their 10G, 40G, and 100G network upgrade programs, increasing the capture and processing speed for our optical spectrum analyzers reflects this commitment,” said Étienne Gagnon, EXFO’s vice-president—Wireline Division and corporate marketing.
