OCTOBER 6, 2010 -- EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF) has launched the MaxTester DSL, a handheld FTTX tester designed to enable field technicians to quickly and easily turn up xDSL services. The MaxTester DSL supports ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, and VDSL2.

Combining DSL, Ethernet, and IP layer testing into one handheld unit, the MaxTester DSL enables service providers to increase their installation teams’ productivity, EXFO says. Designed for first-line technicians, the MaxTester DSL is a dedicated, rugged, waterproof, and dirt-resistant instrument.

EXFO says the MaxTester DSL can terminate any xDSL circuit outside the customer premises to check all service parameters during service turn-up. Inside the home, it can replace the customer modem and emulate the customer’s equipment at any Ethernet connection point.

The MaxTester DSL’s dual Ethernet ports are unique in this class, EXFO asserts, and allow technicians to monitor in-service traffic between devices inside the premises -- which makes the MaxTester DSL applicable for service providers deploying both FTTN and FTTH networks.

The MaxTester DSL offers a 6-inch color, daylight-readable display and simple keypad for easy navigation. The icon-driven user interface and graphical pass/fail results are designed to be user-friendly and used by both expert and entry-level technicians. The MaxTester DSL also provides multiple USB ports for connection to external devices such as laptops and memory sticks, making it easy to capture test reports and manage software upgrades.
