FEBRUARY 8, 2010 -- JDSU (Nasdaq: JDSU; and TSX: JDU) has unveiled J-Complete, a suite of test applications designed to simplify the complexity of installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining carrier networks.

Collectively, the test applications probe, discover, and record the health and reliability of a network by characterizing not only the transport layers, but also the higher-layer, IP/TCP-based flows that affect applications and services. The test information is then delivered in summary format.

JDSU says that J-Complete will enable technicians at all levels to make informed configuration changes on their own, based on industry best practices, without having to involve more senior technicians -- improving the speed and efficiency of problem resolution. J-Complete offers robust tools for a variety of applications, from basic installation testing with RFC 2544 (see "The basics of field testing Ethernet") to advanced provisioning with TCP Wirespeed testing, JDSU says.

By delivering clear summary information, pass fail (green/red) results, intelligent troubleshooting assistants, and true multi-layer application testing, J-Complete also uncovers quality-affecting parameters that have the most significant impact on the proper operation of an application and that impact user experience the most, JDSU asserts. This information is then delivered in an easy-to-interpret summary to enable fast decision making, the company adds.

"For service organizations committed to the continuous improvement of their network applications and services, J-Complete reduces operating expenses by expediting network fault resolution and circuit installation," said Jim Nerschook, vice president and general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "Unlike other solutions that are focused on how best to test, J-Complete uses established best practices to deliver the expert analysis needed to accelerate the efficiency of both junior and senior technicians."

Many of the test applications that compose J-Complete are available with the T-BERD/MTS 6000A Multi Services Application Module (MSAM), T-BERD/MTS-8000 Transport Module, T-BERD/MTS-8000 Dual Module Carrier (DMC), and HST-3000 Ethernet SIM. J-Complete includes:

  • Capture/Decode for up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet Ethernet/IP traffic
  • J-Mentor for expert diagnosis of packet captures
  • J-Proof to verify transparent Ethernet control frame forwarding
  • TCP WireSpeed for 10Mbps up to 10 Gbps of TCP throughput testing
  • J-Assist for real-time, online help
  • J-Connect for automated discovery of remote test sets
  • J-Scan, a SONET/SDH virtual tributary/container and alarm scanner
  • J-QuickCheck for pre-RFC 2544 link verification
  • J-Profiler for Ethernet/IP Traffic Discovery
