JUNE 25, 2007 -- EdenTree Technologies (search for EdenTree Technologies), provider of lab management and test automation equipment for network equipment manufacturers, service providers, and enterprises, today announced the immediate availability of Lab Manager 5.2, the new release of the company's network lab automation software.

Lab Manager is an open Lab Operating System that works with any kind of network equipment, managing physical layer infrastructure to which test equipment and devices under test (DUT) are connected, explain EdenTree representatives. The result is a software-controlled lab environment that allows engineers to easily and remotely manage and use lab resources, says the company.

Lab Manager 5.2 addresses the needs of EdenTree's growing base of customers with multiple locations and ever-increasing numbers of off-shore testing facilities. Test scripts associated with specific devices may be launched remotely from Lab Manager's easy-to-use GUI, making it easier for users in off-site locations to control devices that are in a central lab and run test scripts that have been linked to those devices, explain EdenTree representatives.

Other new features, such as support for long-haul links on certain physical layer switches, enable test equipment in different locations to be connected--between labs in a building, across a campus, or across the world, for example--facilitating ever-higher leveraging of equipment investments. And localization settings allow users anywhere to view reports based on activity in their chosen time zone.

With more and more network test labs automating their test processes, EdenTree's application programming interface (API) command set gives test organizations the flexibility and control needed to incorporate device and test bed management and reservations into their script-managed test processes. New API commands in Lab Manager 5.2 allow test topologies to be created and modified on the fly, while the system's enhanced substitution engine lets testers off-load device allocation decisions to the automated system.

Designed to work in any lab environment with any network devices, EdenTree Lab Manager is tightly integrated with a growing number of third-party physical layer switches, providing broad coverage of connectivity for any interface types, note company representatives. Lab Manager 5.2 supports additional switches and interfaces, an extensive list of new switch features that are controllable from the Lab Manager client and API, and auto-discovery of switches, says EdenTree.
