The National Institute of Standards and Technology (nist--Boulder, CO) has joined with Motorola Inc. (Schaumburg, IL) and Boulder Metric Inc. (Boulder, CO) to design and build an optical detector for calibrating optical-fiber power meters. The device is designed to provide high-accuracy optical radiation measurements where a large numerical aperture is needed. The partners hope to interest businesses that manufacture and measure fiber-optic and optical communications test equipment in the detector.
