Anritsu Co. has released the Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA) MS9740B. The OSA features a combination of performance, functionality, compact size, and high-speed measurement capabilities that will serve design and manufacturing engineers working with 100G/400G optical modules, the company says.
The MS9740B’s optical receiver bandwidth settings improve measurement speed by 50% over previous OSAs while maintaining the necessary performance, Anritsu asserts. The OSA features a dynamic range of >70 dB and a maximum measurement processing time of 0.35 s (sweeping 30-nm wavelength). It also offers optical sensitivity as low as –90 dBm, according to Anritsu. The company adds that the OSA will provide accurate side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) measurements at 45 dB or more.
For high-throughput production environments, the MS9740B supports multimode fiber input, making it useful for manufacturing and evaluating 850-nm VCSEL modules. Its wavelength range extends from 600 nm to 1750 nm. The OSA offers nine application measurement modes: LD-Module, DFB-LD, FP-LD, LED, PMD, WDM, Optical Amplifier (NF and Gain), and WDM Filter. Technicians can access these modes via menu screens. The MS9740B also supports simultaneous measurement of key evaluation parameters, such as optical center wavelength, level, OSNR, and spectrum line width. The OSA will display the results of these tests on a single screen.
