VIAVI unveils Fusion JMEP 10 Smart SFP+ optical transceiver for network test and monitoring

May 13, 2021
As part of the VIAVI NITRO lifecycle management platform, the device is designed to address test and monitoring requirements in a variety of 10GbE network applications.

VIAVI Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAV) now offers the Fusion JMEP 10, which offers network test, turn-up, and performance monitoring capabilities up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) in an SFP+ optical transceiver. As part of the VIAVI NITRO lifecycle management platform, the device is designed to address test and monitoring requirements in a variety of 10GbE network applications, including 5G xHaul, business Ethernet delivery, Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) deployments among cable operators, and GPON/XGS-PON for fiber to the premises (FTTP).

The Fusion JMEP 10 enables the active monitoring and analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs), says VIAVI. The fact that it can be deployed in existing SFP+ ports in fielded equipment simplifies test, service activation, and troubleshooting and reduces equipment upgrades, truck rolls, and mean time to repair (MTTR), the company adds. The test pluggable also features a Micro-Burst detection capability that enables monitoring of traffic with millisecond accuracy, detecting spikes that can cause packet loss, VIAVI states.

“As the industry moves to 10GbE as the common data link rate, while access and backhaul networks become more complex, it becomes imperative for operators to develop a test, turnup, and performance monitoring strategy right from initial deployment,” said Mark Easton, director, transport assurance, at VIAVI. “With the Fusion JMEP 10, VIAVI has delivered carrier-grade testing and monitoring within the tiny footprint of a smart SFP+ transceiver.”
