VeEX Inc. has released the FL41 Optical Fault Locator for service activation and maintenance. The pocket-sized instrument is designed to enable service technicians to quickly measure the length of any single-mode fiber from 60 m to 20 km. The FL41 therefore will be useful in measuring PON drop fibers and short fibers in applications like LAN/WAN, the company states.

The FL41 features a one-touch automatic mode that provides results in approximately 30 seconds. Once they have verified the fiber length, users can then check signal strength with the optional built-in broadband optical power meter (OPM) or pair it with a VeEX light source to measure link loss.

The FL41 uses the VeEX patent-pending NoApp QR code capability to transfer saved measurement results to any smartphone or tablet. From there, technicians can generate customized reports, upload to the cloud, or share with customers and clients without having to download specialized apps.

“The new FL41 Optical Fault Locator is a simple, portable, and affordable solution to measure cable length for verification and fault location without the need for multiple devices,” said Nick Wissman, product marketing engineer, Fiber Optics Solutions at VeEX. “Its one-touch length measurement, optional broadband OPM, and patent-pending NoApp QR code transfer are all contained in a low-cost lightweight package, making it an easy addition to any testing toolkit.”
