Gigabit Ethernet protocol analyzer

A Gigabit Ethernet test capability for the Internet Advisor protocol analyzer includes a 16-nsec hardware time stamp, hardware filters and triggers, and statistical information for errors, frames, and protocols. Using multiple Gigabit Ethernet media-access-control chips, the Internet Advisor captures all data present on a Gigabit Ethernet segment--up to 2 Gbits/sec for full-duplex links. The Internet Advisor is a portable, full-featured network-analysis solution that lets users design, install, support, and maintain local-area and wide-area networks and atm networks. It transmits data at more than 1.48 million frames per second for 64-byte frames. A performance test suite based on the Internet Engineering Task Force rfc 1944 characterizes the throughput and latency of interconnect devices.
