July 19, 2002--Net Optics (www.netoptics.com) is introducing a series of passive combination in-line/span port analyzer switches, extending its SpyderSwitch family. Combination switches enable a single protocol analyzer to perform real-time monitoring and analysis across multiple distributed networks, significantly increasing returns on analyzer investments. In addition, with the new PortRover software, compatible across the SpyderSwitch family, this monitoring can occur in a pre-programmed pattern across any network connected to the switch, further enhancing monitoring efficiency.
Combination switches feature ports for both in-line and span port monitoring, incorporated into a rack-mountable chassis. As an example, a 1x24 Combination SpyderSwitch includes 12 span port connections and 12 pairs of in-line connections.
With the new PortRover software, network managers have multiple options to control which network is being monitored. In first method, switching between any of the 24 monitoring ports, whether span or in-line, is as simple as clicking on the software-based keypad. The next option is "Scan" mode, where the protocol analyzer continuously repeats cycles of monitoring each network for a predetermined period. Finally, a "Programmable" mode is offered, enabling users to customize the monitoring period for each network. This Windows-compatible software is now included with every SpyderSwitch, and supports monitoring with all major manufacturers' distributed protocol analyzer products.
As with the original in-line SpyderSwitches, each new combination switch allows full-duplex monitoring of any fiber topology, including ATM, SONET, Gigabit Ethernet, and Fibre Channel. SpyderSwitches support all transmission speeds through OC192.
All-optical Combination Switches are available in 1x4, 1x16, 1x24 and 1x32 models, with custom configurations available upon request. In addition, 2x16 and 2x24 models are being released, enabling simultaneous monitoring and analysis of any two distributed networks. These latter models will also offer full-duplex monitoring of any fiber topology via span or in-line ports; signal enhancement capability will be offered to support in-line monitoring for high-speed links. Additional features for all SpyderSwitch models include custom cables for "plug-and-play" installation, front-facing connectors for easy maintenance, and a numeric display on the Switch for easy network identification. All SpyderSwitches can be ordered in either multimode or singlemode models.
