Optical monitoring specialist EigenLight Corp. has unveiled the 500 Series Pocket Power Meter (PPM), which it says will enable technicians to quickly test fiber-optic networks in a more cost-effective and efficient manner.
EigenLight specializes in low-loss, high directivity inline fiber-optic power monitoring equipment and optical tap components that provide in-line measurement of the optical power for a wide-range of fiber-optic applications, including long haul, metro, FTTx, and data center optical networks. The new 500 Series PPM leverages the company’s experience with the Series 500 Inline Optical Power Monitor.
Kevin Lefebvre, director of business development at EigenLight, said, “The Series 500 Pocket Power Meter takes advantage of the Series 500 technology but integrates it into small, low-cost, and programmable platform. The low cost and small size makes the Series 500 Pocket Power Meter ideal for measuring the optical power during installation and troubleshooting data centers and FTTx optical networks.”
The S500 Pocket Power Meter can measure wavelengths between 1310 and 1625 nm as well as 850 nm. The small size, low cost, and high performance makes the S500 PPM ideal for field testing of optical networks, the company claims.
The Series 500 PPM automatically turns on when light is detected to promote long battery life. With a push of a button, the S500 PPM’s display can be rotated to enable easy viewing, preventing the misreading of numbers when the display is upside down.
In addition, the S500 PPM can also be set up, monitored, and controlled via a PC through a micro USB interface and EigenLight’s power monitoring software. The internal memory and the USB interface also allow the measured data to be stored and downloaded at a later time for post processing and report generation.
EigenLight will be featuring the new Series 500 Pocket Power Meter at its ECOC booth TT3, September 23 – 25, 2013.
