Test and measurement specialists Fluke Networks aims to streamline and improve the cable certification process with the Versiv Cable Certification Tester family. The new line, which combines hardware and software elements, covers certification of copper and fiber-optic cable networks, including optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) testing. The result is improved test time and accuracy as well as simplified testing setup, planning, and reporting, Fluke Networks asserts.

While other offerings address network testing and troubleshooting, the Versiv family addresses the entire certification lifecycle, Fluke Networks says. The new ProjX management system provides the overall umbrella for the Versiv family of capabilities. It enables team leaders to set up test parameters to work across multiple jobs and media, as well as accelerates the planning and setup of projects by enabling technicians to capture consistent test parameters across an entire job, or switch from job to job by clicking between projects stored in the tester. Test project leaders therefore can leverage up-to-the-minute project analysis and oversight. The new LinkWare software function offers a summarization of an entire cabling architecture, offering the ability to verify margins and spot problems.

Versiv system’s interface is designed for ease of use in global ISO Level V test compliance applications. In the field, if technicians run into a problem that can’t be addressed immediately, they can create a "Fix Later" troubleshooting to-do list for a later time – and, perhaps, a more experienced technician. The system’s software platform supports setup wizards as well as Fluke Networks’ gesture-based Taptive user interface, as well as new workflow enhancements.

On the hardware end, the new enhancements run across the existing OptiFiber Pro OTDR certification module as well as the new Certifiber Pro fiber certification module and DSX-5000 copper certification handheld units.

"When doing cabling installation and certification, the difference between having a job be profitable versus a loss, is often times just a few percentage points," said Jason Wilbur, vice president and general manager of the datacom cabling installation business unit at Fluke Networks, via a press release. "In 2004, we defined the certification market with the introduction of our industry leading tester, the DTX, which was focused on certification testing speed. But today's challenges have changed and our customers must improve their agility and reduce errors when working across multiple mediums, codes, and projects. The Versiv family is razor focused on helping our contractors profitably manage the complexities that are now part of their new normal."

The complete Versiv system is now available for order.
