Anritsu introduces IEC61300-3-35 universal pass/fail connector analysis

Anritsu Co. says it has enhanced its MT9083 ACCESS Master OTDR and MT9090A Network Master platform by implementing software based on the IEC61300-3-35 standard, for universal pass/fail analysis of fiber-optic connector end faces. The company says the new software provides a more streamlined testing process that is 100% repeatable, creating a more efficient, simpler, and more accurate method for field technicians to determine whether optical connectors are damaged and should be repaired/replaced or simply need to be cleaned.

Anritsu Co. says it has enhanced its MT9083 ACCESS Master OTDR and MT9090A Network Master platform by implementing software based on the IEC61300-3-35 standard, for universal pass/fail analysis of fiber-optic connector end faces. The company says the new software provides a more streamlined testing process that is 100% repeatable, creating a more efficient, simpler, and more accurate method for field technicians to determine whether optical connectors are damaged and should be repaired/replaced or simply need to be cleaned.

By establishing an automated fiber-optic connector inspection process, the software provides consistency when determining optical connector end face condition and quality. Anritsu asserts field technicians of any experience can use the MT9083 or MT9090A to evaluate connectors based upon the IEC61300-3-35 standard criteria, which identify four zones – core, cladding, adhesive, and contact. Results can be saved to a file or comprehensive PDF report.

The implementation of the IEC61300-3-35 standard capability continues Anritsu’s emphasis of designing test systems that simplify field measurements. The MT9083 or MT9090A can test any kind of fiber-optic transmission lines used in a variety of applications, including access or metro networks, distributed antenna systems (DAS), fiber-to the-antenna (FTTA)/remote radio units (RRU), PON-based FTTx, or LAN.

Adding the IEC61300-3-35 standard capability expands the functionality of the MT9083 ACCESS Master OTDRs, which feature all the measurement functions and performance required for optical fiber construction and maintenance in a compact, lightweight, all-in-one unit (see “Anritsu upgrades ACCESS Master portable OTDR”).

The portable MT9090A provides broad test capabilities required by field technicians who install and maintain optical fibers. The MT9090A provides data sampling of two centimeters, dead zones of 0.8-meter, and dynamic range up to 38 dB ensure accurate and complete fiber evaluation of any network, the company claims. The MT9090A Network Master can also be equipped with 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet or CWDM Optical Channel Analyzer modules to evolve as a network does.
