Digital Lightwave offers portable 40G/100G test instruments

May 15, 2013
Fiber-optic test and measurement equipment specialist Digital Lightwave, Inc. has introduced versions of its CSA 4100 40G/100G module that will fit into the company’s NIC NXG and NIC BP (Battery Power) chassis. The result is a fiber-optic test instrument small enough to fit under an airline seat. In fact, at 12.3 (W) x 10.1 (H) x 5.0 (D) and 11.6 lbs for the NIC NXG and 12.8 lbs for the BP, the two systems are the smallest and lightest 40G/100G chassis/module combinations in the industry, Digital Lightwave asserts.

Digital Lightwave originally unveiled the CSA 4100 module in 2011, aimed at the company’s NIC Plus portable and NIC EP rackmount chassis (see "Digital Lightwave launches 40-Gbps/100-Gbps Ethernet, OTN and SONET/SDH testing in new module"). The extension of the CSA 4100’s capabilities to the NIC NXG and NIC BP chassis means even smaller form factors are available, with or without battery support.

The NIC Platform family is designed to support multi-port, multi-protocol, multi-rate testing for a variety of technology development and field applications. It offers dual 40G/100G, 1.5 Mbps to 100 Gbps testing in a single unit, as well as simultaneous testing of Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), 10GbE, 40GbE, and 100GbE.

"We've taken our proven 40/100G test solution, the CSA 4100 module, and combined it with our proven small NIC chassis," stated Al Zwan, Digital Lightwave’s president and CEO. "We revolutionized the industry with the first truly portable SONET tester and the first truly portable 10G testers. Now once again, we're delivering exactly what our customers need with or without battery backup. As always, our focus is providing innovation that translates to getting the job done faster and more cost effectively."
