Harris and RBS sign R$10 million contract to expand microwave backbone network
Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a global provider of microwave equipment and services, announced it has received a R$10 million contract for microwave radio systems and equipment from RBS, a multimedia communications company which operates in the south of Brazil and is an affiliate of Globo Network Television.
Under the terms of the contract, Harris will supply RBS with SDH MegaStar microwave radios, multiplex TRT SDH equipment, and expand the network management system to enable video transmission. In addition to supplying new MegaStar radios, Harris will upgrade RBS' existing radios at its headquarters. To ensure no service interruption, the installation and upgrade process will be carried out while the system is in operation.
With this new equipment, RBS will link Porto Alegre with other cities in the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, including Sao Paulo. To accomplish this, the existing network will be extended to Curitiba. The contract provides for the construction of 10 new sites: three in Rio Grande do Sul, one in Santa Catarina, and six in Sao Paulo.
Harris do Brasil will carry out the entire network integration as a turnkey contract, providing everything from the selection of construction sites and engineering, to installation and project integration.
